- 5–6 firm apples (e.g., Golden Delicious or Braeburn)
- 100 g unsalted butter
- 120 g granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Peel and core the apples, then cut them into quarters.
- In an ovenproof skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add sugar and stir until caramelized to a deep golden color. Incorporate vanilla extract and salt if desired.
- Arrange apple quarters in the caramel with cut sides facing up; cook on low heat for about 10–15 minutes.
- Drape puff pastry over the apples, tucking in the edges.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes until the pastry is puffed and golden.
- Allow to cool for 5–10 minutes before inverting onto a plate.
