  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: Serves 4

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 16 ounce block extra firm tofu
  • 1 tablespoon tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons gluten free breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup low sodium tamari or soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup gochujang/red chili paste
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable broth or water
  • 3 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Remove the tofu from its packaging and drain off excess liquid. Wrap it in a towel and lightly press to absorb more moisture. Cut the tofu into about 1-inch cubes and place them in a mixing bowl.
  3. Toss the tofu cubes with tamari or soy sauce until evenly coated. Add cornstarch and mix again until all pieces are well coated. Finally, add gluten-free breadcrumbs and toss gently.
  4. Place the coated tofu on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring no pieces touch each other. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, turn off the oven but leave the tofu inside for an additional 5 minutes.
  5. In a small pot, whisk together all sauce ingredients except for water and cornstarch until well combined. In another small bowl, mix cornstarch with water until smooth. Add this mixture to the pot with sauce ingredients and heat over low/medium heat until it bubbles and thickens slightly.
  6. Once baked, let tofu cool for about 5 minutes before transferring it to a mixing bowl. Toss half of the sauce with cooled tofu until well coated. Reserve remaining sauce for serving.
  7. Serve your crispy gochujang Korean tofu alongside white rice and fresh veggies.
