Ingredients
- 2 cups unbleached white flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp granulated sugar for sprinkling on top
- 1/2 cup cold butter (or vegan butter)
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup milk (any kind)
- 1 tsp milk for top
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and sugar.
- Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles small peas.
- Stir in molasses and milk until just combined.
- Shape dough into a circle about ¾ inch thick on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush dough top with milk and sprinkle sugar over it.
- Cut into wedges and bake for 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
