  • Yield: Serves approximately 4 people 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds beef belly
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 thumb-sized piece of ginger
  • ¼ cup light soy sauce
  • ¼ cup dark soy sauce
  • ⅓ cup apple vinegar
  • ¼ cup hoisin sauce

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Sear the beef belly pieces until browned on all sides (about 5–7 minutes), then set aside.
  2. In the same pan, sauté minced garlic and sliced ginger for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Return seared beef to the pan and add soy sauces, apple vinegar, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, and water. Stir well to coat.
  4. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, and simmer uncovered for 1 to 1½ hours until beef is tender and sauce thickens into a sticky glaze.
  5. Adjust seasoning if necessary before serving hot, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
